Temple that stands on top of the reef is a shrine to the gods of the sea. Tanah Lot itself consists of the word “Tanah”, which means rock and “Lot” which means sea. This temple was originally built by the instructions of the Niratha Danghyang spread the Hindu religion of the land of Java in the 16th century. On the cliffs there is a black and white striped snake is believed to be the temple guards. Freshwater springs that are only visible when the tide is low also present here. Pura Tanah Lot is also known as a wonderful place to see the sunset.
